Welcome to the Western Vascular Centre Website

The Western Vascular Centre is situated at the Private Consulting Suites alongside the Western Hospital in Gordon Street, Footscray. Our Centre is staffed by Specialist Vascular Surgeons, a sclerotherapist and reception staff. We also have an onsite vascular imaging facility, Western Vascular Diagnostics.

 

Mr Gary Frydman MBBS PhD FRACS FACPhlebology

 

Mr Gary Frydman graduated from Monash University Medical School and underwent his internship and residency at the Alfred Hospital. Following this he underwent research at the Department of Surgery at Monash University where he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) after three years of research in Surgery. He then trained in General Surgery for the next four years and qualified as a surgeon. Following this he underwent further training in Vascular Surgery for three years. He has spent time training in the United Kingdom and in Queensland.

On returning to Melbourne, he commenced practice at many private hospitals throughout the Melbourne Metropolitan Area and has a position as a visiting consultant vascular surgeon at 2 public hospitals in the metropolitan area. He also visits the Bacchus Marsh and Sunbury areas.

His special interest involves minimally invasive vascular surgery. In particular this involves endoluminal repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms, endoluminal management of lower limb arterial blockages as well as the non operative management of varicose veins
 
Mr Frydman is married with 2 children and has achieved membership of the Division of Vascular Surgery of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Vascular Surgery, the International Society of Endovascular Specialists, the European Society for Vascular Surgery, the Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Phlebology. He is also a fellow of the Australasian College of Phlebology.
 
Mr Frydman is the founder of the Western Vascular Centre.

 

 

Mr Franklin Pond MBBS FRACS (Vasc)


Mr Franklin Pond is a qualified Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon, experienced in all fields of vascular surgery including endovascular, venous, aortic, carotid, and peripheral arterial surgery.  He also provides a dialysis access service for renal patients using both open and laparoscopic techniques.
Mr Pond graduated from The University of Melbourne Medical School and engaged training in General Surgery at St Vincent’s Hospital and Monash Medical Centre.  He then undertook Advanced Vascular Surgery training for a further four years.
 
Underscoring his interest in minimally invasive vascular surgery, Mr Pond has experience in endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR). He also performs sclerotherapy and endovenous laser surgery for varicose veins as well as angioplasty stenting of arteries.
 
Professional memberships include the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, Australian and New Zealand Society for Vascular Surgery, and Melbourne Vascular Surgical Association. Mr Pond is a tutor and clinical examiner of undergraduate Medicine at The University of Melbourne. Franklin joined the Western Vascular Centre in early 2008. He has public hospital appointments at the Western Health and Northern Health Vascular Units.

 

 

Dr Sharon Felzen

Dr Sharon Felzen graduated from Monash University in 1984 and after gaining a solid grounding in general medicine decided to further her interest in cosmetic medicine. Since 1998, she has gained considerable experience in the areas of treating veins.
She joined the Western Vascular Centre in 2006 and has focused on vein treatments, specializing in microsclerotherapy and ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy. She worked as senior surgical assistant to a leading cosmetic dermatologist in Melbourne from 1998 to 2004. Dr Felzen continues to work in General Practice with interests in Travel Medicine, Mole Screening & Women’s Health. She attends regular local and overseas conferences to advance her experience and knowledge in this field of medicine.

Dr Arj Herath

Dr Arj Herath graduated from Flinders University of South Australia in 2002, and gained Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2008.  He continues to work as a General Practitioner, and has developed a keen interest in cosmetic vein treatment.  His areas of special interest include microsclerotherapy and ultrasound guided sclerotherapy.  He is also interested in Veinwave therapy for fine veins.
 
Arj joined the staff at the Western Vascular Centre in early 2010. He is an Associate Member of the Australian College of Phlebology and is currently furthering his knowledge and experience in this area through regular attendance at international conferences and working under the direction of eminent specialists in vein treatment.
